Sa pagsugod sini nga millenio may good news ako kag may bad news.  First the bad news.  May daku nga linog nga matabo from 6 to 7 in the Richter scale sa second, third ukon fourth quarter sang year 2000.  Isa ka daku nga building sa Binondo ang malumpag.  Si Erap indi makatapos sang iya nga term tungod kay may coup d’etat nga matabo, gani indi gid sia magsalig sa iya cabinete kay may mga traidor dira.  Ang magabulos kay Erap sa pagkapresidente isa ka babayi.  Si Orbos kag si Panfilo Lacson mangin senador.  Mangin maayo ang aton ekonomiya masugod sa Hunyo.  Kag ang mangin bantog nga artista sa year 2000 isa ka action star.  Amo ini ang latest suno kay Madame Auring, isa ka bantog nga fortuneteller kag beauty consultant. 

Sa pagpadayon sang bad news may ekomista man nga nagsiling  that we are facing a tough year ahead of us.  Magasaka ang gasolina from 50 to 60 centavos per liter sa masunod nga mga inadlaw.  Kag indi lamang ina, magasaka man ang presyo sang bugas.  Sa second kag third quarter ginasiling sang Pag-asa nga magaliwat ang El Niño phenomenon.  Kag indi pa naton subong ma-asses kon ano gid ang natuga kag possible nga matuga sang Y2K bug.  Siguro iban sa inyo nagbakal prutas nga bilog, nagsuksuk sang pula nga bayu kag polka dots ang design.  Maayo gid ina at least kon magtuod gid man nga debuenas ina nga mga butang may dugang ikaw nga pamplite, pangbakal gasolina kag bugas sa sini nga tuig.  That’s the bad news.

These are the good news and bad news of the year 2000 kag amo ini ang panan-aw sang iban.  Sa aton iya ano ini nga tuig – maayo bala ukon malain ukon basi sa iban daw waay gid man. So before we leave let us decide for ourselves – will this be a good or bad year or shall this be like all the rest of the years.

The first reaction is a reaction of fear.  Ini nga kahadlok makita naton kay Herodes.  The star or the meaning of that star is a threat to the status quo.  He saw it as something bad – may ka rival na sia, may tawo nga mas labaw pa sa iya, magguba ang naandan na niya nga kabuhi, may mga pagbag-o nga matabo nga basi indi niya masaw-an.  Fear, anxiety, dread – for most of us this is our reaction to the year 2000.  I admit fear also passed me by.  Sang nagligad for example hinadlokan ako kay basi ang gamay ko na gid lang nga sinuptan sa bangko maalimunaw tungod sang Y2K.  Pero last Dec. 30 I began to laugh at this fear because I discovered nga tuod basi maalimunaw, pero tuod man kay basi tungod sang computer error basi magdamo ang imo gindeposito imbes nga 5, 000 pesos mahimo 5 million.  Kon maalimunaw puede ako ya ka pang-away, pero kon magdamo mahimonong ako sa higad kag magyuhumyuhum.  You see there are always two possibilities to a known problem.  When you see a bad problem and you only see the bad things that will result from that problem, then everything becomes fearful and desperate.  But if you entertain also the other possibility that that bad problem might result to something good then the situation becomes hopeful, sometimes even exciting – my 5,000 will become 5 million on Monday and I have the Y2K to thank for.  The lesson is this, there is always something good that will come out of a bad problem, because as St. Paul has said for those who love God everything will turn out for the good.  Do you believe that?  Then why do you worry, why are you afraid?

The second reaction is indifference, nga ang natabo kag possible nga matabo daw sa waay man lang.  Ini nga tuig pareho man sa iban nga tuig – OK lang.  Makita naton ini nga reaksiyon sang mga mangin-alamon.  OK lang tuloy ang ligaya, tuloy rin ang problema.  Mas delikado ini.  Why because this year is the year of the great jubilee.  This is unlike all other years.  Tuig ini nga dapat magpaabot kita sang mga dalagku kag manami nga mga butang nga matabo sa aton tunga.  Tuig ini nga dapat nga tinguhaon naton nga dab-oton ang aton ginahangad bilang parokya, bilang katilingban kag bilang mga anak sang Dios.  This is the time of great expectations – indi lang amo man ini sa gihapon – may kinalain gid ini nga tuig sang sa iban nga tuig and I am going to let it happen.

And this is the third reaction, the reaction of the magi, a reaction that something good is going to happen, something that they should not miss, something that they should work for and look for even if they have to spend extra effort in traveling from a far away place.  Basaha ninyo ang Candle Light – the best is yet to come.  This is the Jubilee year and yes the best is yet to come in this year, the best is yet to come in Jesus - the reaction of the magi.

Start this century with the right perspective – the perspective of the magi.  They wanted to see God in the star – they searched for him and they saw God.  Look at this year, this century as a Jubilee year – a year of great expectations, a year when we will live in interesting times.  And you will be a lot happier.
